Guest post of the week by Brittany Booker
Why on earth anyone else in this town had bought my super-specific domain name I’ll never know, but I can only assume it had something to do with money. A few months ago, I went to start a blog based on my experiences as a travel writer and low and behold, someone already owned the domain. It even included my name! I used the whois database to find out who the site was registered to and quickly hired a contact company to find out if they’d be willing to sell. Unfortunately for me, the second the owner knew I was interested he raised the price, far outside of what I was willing to sell for. I thought long and hard and debated even paying him for the rights, but when it came down to it, I realized that a domain name was just that. It couldn’t make or break my site unless I let it so I settled on a different name altogether. In the long run, I’m actually happier with my choice, anyway, so I guess that goes to show him!
