If there is one valuable lesson I learned when I bought my first computer it was, don't skimp on your anti-virus software. Not having antivirus software on your home computer is like leaving the keys in your car, with the doors unlocked. It doesn't make sense. Unfortunately, when I got my first computer, I didn't know any better. I had coverage for a few months and after that, nothing. What a mistake!
For some strange reason, I find the gamer sites have lots and lots of adware, spyware and viruses. My kids were young and always printing cheat codes from sites like cheat code central and others. Not knowing much about computers, I didn't understand why the computer was slowing down. Big mistake. I was doing some work for my job when the computer just froze. It wasn't doing anything. The next day, I called a friend that gave me some instructions. I did exactly what she told me and me and gues what? I had the sasser worm-at least that's what I recall it was called. It was not pretty!
What lesson did I learn?
DO NOT leave your computer unprotected! Here's a great site that enables you to download the Norton Anti Virus 2007 to three different computers. They're currently running a promotion that saves you $20.00 (after mail-in rebate) off their regular price of $69.99. They also offer Symantec 2006 for $29.99 (after mail-in rebate). Always remember, it's better to be safe than sorry! Besides having your computer unprotected is a mistake that can cost you a pretty penny and a lot of headaches!
